For a stylish bundle of fun, youngsters will love the used Suzuki Swift, offering equipment and clout galore for the cash. Driving's a hoot, too, thanks to some nice engines. They start with a 1.3 petrol that reaches 60mph in 10.6 seconds and provides 48mpg. For a sprint time of 9.7 seconds in manual form, there's the 46mpg 1.5-litre. The Sport model is costly new, but a steal on the used market and a useful performer, hitting 60mph in 8.6 seconds and reaching 124mph. A 1.3 diesel is pretty nippy and economical, at 62mpg.
The used Suzuki Swift is a safe car, with standard twin front, side and curtain airbags and anti-lock brakes. The Sport gets traction and stability control. Euro NCAP awarded the Swift four stars in its crash tests. On the kit front, the basic SZ2 has power steering, electric front windows and remote central locking, while the SZ3 gets front fogs and air-con, and the SZ4 climate control and alloy wheels. The Sport has a body kit all of its own.
