About Suzuki
Recognised by most people for their successes in the world of motor cycle racing, Suzuki has been making motorised cycles since 1952 and their venture into car production was with the lightweight car the “Suzulight” a 360 cc 2 stroke FWD which was the start of Japan’s age of lightweight cars. The car breakthrough came in 1968 when Suzuki brought into production the Jimny a 4x4 SUV which is still going strong today, although it has seen some changes along the way. Drawing on their continuing success in the motor cycle racing world Suzuki continued to develop and produce engines which were put to a variety of uses in the leisure, marine and construction industries, but their four wheel drive technology put them in the forefront of motor car development.
The range of motor cars from Suzuki covers small city cars through to tough dual purpose off road vehicles. The Alto is a small city hatchback which averages over 60 mpg, has a very low insurance rating making it cheap to insure, a delightfully small turning circle which is great for town work and parking.
The Splash is a great little car to drive with the option of 1.0- and 1.2-litre petrol, or 1.3-litre diesel engines. The car is crammed full of extras even at the entry level of the 1.0 litre, which includes air-con, four electric windows, electrically adjustable door mirrors, six airbags and stability control.
The Swift is a sporty compact or supermini and is a cheap and reliable commuter or useful family car, easy to maintain and cheap to run whether it is school runs or city commuting the Swift will not let you down.
The SX4 is a crossover which was formed through a joint development with Fiat and is good to drive, well equipped and attractively priced. It also gives you 4x4 looks without the high running costs.
The Jimny is a rugged off roader, where in reality is where it shines, this is a 4x4 at a bargain price although it is not as refined as some of its rivals it’s fun and it is cheap and you will not get stuck!
The Grand Vitara is a hard-working, hard-wearing 4x4 that’s more capable than most when the going gets tough. It also has a low-ratio gearbox as standard, which helps give it superb control off-road, especially for climbing and descending steep hills. The Grand Vitara is in its second decade and is still going strong, available in 3 or 5 door versions with a choice of petrol or diesel engines.
Suzuki have a presence in the used car market, although supply of these can be limited, but when they do find their way into the car marts, they offer extremely good value for money.
