It might look cute and cuddly, but behind the fluff is a grown-up hatchback that's a joy to drive. Engines-wise, the used Renault Twingo offers a choice of three 1.2-litre units and a 131bhp 1.6. If you want a bit of pep, best avoid the 59bhp entry version and go for the 74bhp unit. For even more oomph, try the GT, which comes with a turbocharger that increases power to 99bhp. Finally, for serious clout, you need the Renaultsport 1.6 - great fun when revved hard.
The Renault Twingo isn't the cheapest new, but used models are affordable, thanks to depreciation, economical engines and low CO2 emissions.
