If you were never quite sure about the quirky booty on the old Megane, don't worry: it's gone. In fact, the 2008 incarnation of Renault's family hatch has a lot more to offer, too, like great safety, lots of kit and some excellent engines. These used Renault Megane begins with two turbocharged petrols: a nippy 16V that'll shoot to 60mph in 9.3 seconds, an even faster 2.0 TCE petrol that does the sprint in 7.6 and a 1.6 petrol that'll return 40mpg. Diesels include 85 and 105bhp 1.5-litre units returning 60+mpg, a 1.9 offering 55mpg or a powerful 2.0-litre.
