Updated in 2009, the used Renault Grand Scenic makes for sensible family motoring. It's a compact MPV with bags of room all over and a real quality feel, especially on the interior. Under the bonnet, engines include a range of 1.5 and 1.9 diesels and a 1.6 petrol and 2.0 petrol, but the shining stars are the smooth 1.4-litre turbo petrol that offers a 0-60 of 11 seconds plus around 38mpg and the 2.0-litre diesel, with 42mpg and a brisk 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds.
List prices are pretty fair - which means that used prices on your Renault Grand Scenic should offer some excellent bargains, if you don't mind a little mileage. Kit-wise, Extreme models have air-con, MP3 connection and airbags galore. Expression versions include an electronic parking brake and nice display. To get alloys, keyless entry, sat-nav and Bluetooth, you need a Dynamique, but the range-topping Privilege adds only climate control and parking sensors. The Grand Scenic scored five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests.
