About Mini
The Mini is, the Swinging Sixties, Carnaby Street, The Italian Job, everyone who can relate to the days when the Mini was seen on every street will have their own memories. Above all, it was an inspired piece of British design and engineering which took the motoring world by storm when it was first released to the worlds press in 1959. The brainchild of Alec Issigonis and the British Motor Corporation, he was already associated with the design icon the Morris Minor, a design which had longevity and can still be seen occasionally today. The original Mini was greeted by sheer amazement by the public; it had tiny wheels and a complete lack of refinement. But, it had fantastic handling capabilities and went on to win numerous rallies, and became a firm favourite with the car buying public, eventually selling over 5 million units in its numerous forms. The Mini brand had a few owners in this period, from British Motor Corporation through British Leyland and Rover Group, and production of the car, in its various forms ran until the year 2000, an incredible 41 years!
The design inspired the new owners of the company BMW, to develop its successor, which began life on the drawing board in 1995, eventually going into production in 2001; this new generation on car was to be styled as MINI to differentiate it from its predecessor. The new BMW MINI is produced as a Saloon, Clubman Estate, and Convertible. Although the design of the new MINI owes much to the original Mini, no longer is it a utilitarian motor, it is now a luxurious small car. The MINI is produced by BMW at its "Plant Oxford" in Cowley which was completely refurbished with 21st Century production lines installed. The car is entirely British manufactured with engines being supplied from BMW in Birmingham and body pressings from their plant in Swindon. The MINI is a highly successful and sophisticated car and will in time, no doubt, be just as popular as the one from which it took its name.
Because the MINI is a popular car with new buyers, it means that there is a steady supply of high quality used vehicles available for the discerning buyer. The MINI is sold with various "packs" and you will be sure to find one that meets your requirements. The MINI has been produced in a diesel version, adding to its already economical running costs as well as the ONE. But, for those looking for a sportier version, the famed MINI Cooper, and Cooper ‘S’ can be found at leading used car supermarkets.
