About Kia Sportage
The used Kia Sportage is a well-equipped crossover that handles on- and off-road duties with aplomb, and a car made all the more attractive by Kia's generous seven-year warranty. At entry-level, the XE gives you air-con, four electric windows, alloys, colour-coded bumpers and a CD. Find an XS and the extra cash will get you leather seats, cruise control and climate control. The range-topping Titan provides heated seats, privacy glass, electric sunroof and 17-inch alloys. There's a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 140bhp, but the 138bhp turbodiesel is the better bet, with much bigger pull.
If you don't need the off-road ability, you can look for a used Kia Sportage in a cheaper two-wheel-drive form. Running costs are reasonable, but depreciation is heavy, which is of course a boon for the used buyer. The four-wheel-drive diesel averages 39.8mpg and the petrol 34.4mpg. Safety's good, with traction control, twin front, side and curtain airbags, and anti-lock brakes, although only the Titan gives you stability control.
