About Jeep
The Jeep is synonymous with the rugged 4 wheel drive off roader that became the workhorse of the Allied Forces during World War 2, mainly used for recognisance and general transport purposes. The original Jeep was the brainchild of Willis-Overland and American Bantam and was to prove to be very successful with a total of around 653,568 military Jeeps that were eventually manufactured.
Today the Jeep is manufactured by the Chrysler Corporation and is a far cry from the WW2 workhorse; it is a sophisticated SUV. The closest current model would probably be the Jeep Wrangler. This 2 door sport will let you explore country roads and tackle off road without problems, not to mention snow and other difficult driving conditions. The legendary Jeep Wrangler has demonstrated its continued success as a serious off-roader. With its do anything as well as a go anywhere approach, Wrangler offers a unique combination of world-class off-road driving, fun, everyday convenience and versatility.
The Jeep Patriot is a compact crossover vehicle and with its all new and fresh interior it is a popular SUV. Changes to the diesel-powered Patriot have recently been announced, with details of a powerful new engine, improved fuel economy, greater torque and improved trim levels. The current 2.0 Volkswagen diesel engine has just been replaced with a modern 163bhp 2.2 CRD engine sourced from Mercedes-Benz, offering a significantly wider spread of torque available from lower RPM.
Eagerly expected during 2011 is the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee, it is to use Mercedes-Benz M-Class platform, the brand-new 3.6-litre ‘Phoenix’ V6 petrol engine and a full-time Quadra-Trac II four-wheel-drive system. The diesel version is to be the Mercedes 3 litre turbo diesel, showing yet again the benefits that were gained during the era when Mercedes and Chrysler were a joint company.
