About Honda
A massive company, Honda is the biggest manufacturer of motor cycles in the world and it also lays claim to being the largest maker of engines manufacturing around 14 million units each year. Now bigger than Nissan in Japan and the fourth largest in America, it is the 6th largest maker of cars in the world.
From very modest beginnings during World War 2, when, because of fuel shortages, Honda first thought up the idea of attaching an engine to a bicycle and from this it was to become, by 1964 the world’s largest manufacturer of motor cycles. Motor car production was to follow, again in a modest way, with the T360pick up truck followed by the S500 sports car, which was powered by 500cc double overhead camshaft engine, the rear wheels being driven by a chain. The first Honda mini car was to be the N360 and it was to be a hit worldwide. However it was the Civic which first was to be the car that set Honda on the road to motor car success. First produced in 1972 and still made today, it is second only to the Toyota Corolla with the longest running name from a Japanese manufacturer. Early models of Civic, had items fitted as standard such as a radio, foam filled seating, two speed wipers, on British and European cars, these were "optional extras" to be bought in addition to the basic cost of a car. The Civic was rebadged for many markets, but it remained a Civic, front wheel drive with transverse engine along the lines of the Mini.
From these very humble beginnings Honda continued to expand and opened manufacturing plants and distribution networks worldwide, opening in the UK at Swindon in 1992 manufacturing the Accord. The plant now is responsible for the manufacture of the Honda Civic and the Honda CRV. The reputation of Honda has been built on reliability and their expertise which has been gained through their association with F1 racing from the beginnings in 1964 until it withdrew from the sport in 2009. Many of the technical developments during this period have been transferred from the "track" to the road which has created a range of highly advanced motor cars.
Used Honda Cars are in great demand due to their reliability and efficiency, most popular being the Jazz, you won’t find a more reliable car around. The Accord has a long history of being a dependable, roomy saloon car, you will not be disappointed. Of course the Civic has to be at the top of most people’s list of good reliable sporty medium-sized family hatchback with a combination of cutting-edge design with some great engines, reliability and practicality.
Honda’s mission is: "Maintaining a global viewpoint, we are dedicated to supplying products of the highest quality, yet at a reasonable price for worldwide customer satisfaction."
