If you want the wind in your hair without letting go of the pound in your pocket, a used Ford Streetka could be the answer. It's a funky-looking convertible that's aimed at the young female market. Handling's pretty nifty, the gearbox is precise and it copes with potholes pretty well. There are a few trims to choose from, but all have remote central locking, alloys, electric windows and CD player. If your budget will stretch, though, go for the Luxury trim - because leather seats always add a certain something.
If music's your bag, find an ICE model, which has a great sound system. There's also a Winter trim, with a hard top that keeps the elements out, but most drivers will find the normal hood satisfactory. Unless you love being pointed at, try to avoid the somewhat garish Streetka Pink, part of Ford's promotion of the Thunderbirds film, and a colour scheme that only Lady Penelope could love. Running costs are similar to the used Ford Ka, with the exception of the uprated insurance.
