Small car, big impact. The latest version of Ford's small family hatchback is a winner in design, performance and economy. Perhaps that's because it nicks ideas from its big brothers, like keyless entry, Bluetooth, and a mis-fuelling failsafe system. This car is no technophobe - it's happy to play MP3 files through a USB stick and the dashboard looks like a mobile phone. It's also fantastic to drive and costs buttons to own.
For around town, you'll want the 1.25-litre petrol engine with 60bhp or 82bhp, while, for both performance and economy, you'll need the 96bhp 1.4-litre. For a sporty touch, try the 120bhp 1.6-litre, offering 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds. All the diesels are excellent and there's an ECOnetic version that's exempt from tax and also returns 78mpg.
Your used Ford Fiesta is comfortable, with good leg room, sculpted seats and decent headroom. External noise is minimal, the stereo's a delight and the as-standard air-con is decidely chilly. Safety is big with the used Ford Fiesta, too, with a top five-star rating in Euro NCAP tests.
