Ideal for youngsters, the used Citroen C2 offers economy, low insurance and lots of fun. The C2 comes with neat looks, a good ride and a decent level of kit. Engine-wise, the basic 61bhp 1.1-litre unit is the best. Although not rapid, it's economical. You'll get more oomph out of the 1.4, but it costs more and insurance is higher. If you're looking for exceptional economy, keep an eye out for the stop-start version. The range-topper is the 1.6, providing up to 123bhp, which is a blast. If 70mpg sounds useful, you'll need the 1.4 turbodiesel.
There's a range of trims, from L to SX. The Design is probably the winner, giving you a CD player, electric front windows and remote central locking. The big selling point for the used Citroen C2 is the insurance: the 1.1 is in the cheapest group 1, while the 1.4 and diesel are in group 3, and even the sporty VTR and VTS sit in only groups 6 and 8. Servicing is cheaper than on the Citroen C1.
