The Audi A4 occupies the same bracket as the BMW 3-Series, the Mercedes-Benz C Class or the VW Passat, and is clearly a car aimed at the executive end of the market. That said, it also has family credentials, especially the Audi A4 Avant, the five-door estate which would be perfect for throwing the kids and some camping paraphernalia into and heading off to the beach (albeit in style). The classic A4 has a sedan profile, however, has proved to be its natural form and the one most people will think of when considering a second hand Audi A4.
Since its launch in 1994, the Audi A4 has been through so many versions and rebirths that it’s impossible to pin down a standard configuration. Engines have ranged from an 8-valve 1.6 up to a 30-valve V6 3.0 (and there was a V6 3.2 model in 2007). The A4 has also been produced in a 2-door Cabriolet version and in 2WD and 4WD (Quattro) versions.
