About Audi
Audi is a German company who design, develop, and produce and sales of high quality premium cars. The company under the control of its parent company Volkswagen AG, develops, manufactures and markets cars and engines. The Audi Group comprises the Audi and Lamborghini brands. Audi has production facilities in Germany, China, India, Italy, Hungary and Belgium. They are also involved in manufacturing vehicles and engines for its parent company as well as all the brands held by the parent company, such as Skoda, Seat, Bentley and others. Founded in 1899 by August Horch, who left soon after following a dispute and then went on to establish a second company in 1909 Horch Automobil-Werke GmbH, the first Audi car, the Type B, 10/28PS was delivered early in 1910.
Between the two World Wars, an amalgamation took place at various times between four German car manufacturers, DKW, Horch, Audiwerke, and Wanderer to form Auto Union. It was during this period that the company offered the Audi Front that became the first European car to combine a six-cylinder engine with front-wheel drive. It used a powertrain shared with the Wanderer, but turned 180-degrees, so that the drive shaft faced the front.
Before World War II, Auto Union used the four interlinked rings that make up the Audi badge today, representing the four brands. This badge was used however only on Auto Union racing cars in that period while the member companies used their own names and emblems. The technological development became more and more concentrated and some Audi models were propelled by Horch or Wanderer built engines. Reflecting the economic pressures of the time, Auto Union concentrated increasingly on smaller cars through the 1930s, so that by 1938 the company’s DKW brand accounted for 17.9% of the German car market while Audi held only 0.1%.
Audi makes a range of twelve cars covering a complete range from the compact A1 with leading technology and exceptional looks, through saloons, avants, SUV’s to the blistering performance combined with the highest level of refinement of the Audi RS range. Most popular amongst buyers is the high quality, sporty compact motoring of the A3 and the practical, performance of the luxurious and beautifully crafted A4 range.
