The latest Volkswagen Sharan cars in stock

The Sharan is a spacious MPV that’s been a popular choice with larger families since it was introduced in 1995. In the late nineties it won a string of awards, from the Auto Express Best People Carrier to the Best MPV in 1999, proving that it’s a practical vehicle that’s able to cope with the daily demands of today’s busy, active families. Over the years it’s had a couple of facelifts but it remains one of the most reliable and adaptable vehicles in its class. Although some larger MPV’s can transport six passengers, the rear seating can be cramped and only appropriate for smaller children. Not so for the Sharan - the vast, seven-seat cabin is big enough to seat seven adults in comfort. Head and legroom is impressive and you won’t feel uncomfortable on longer journeys. The sliding rear doors make it easy to get the kids in and out in tight parking spaces and it’s a doddle to load the shopping. The boot is huge, even with all seven seats in place. Fold down the third row seats for a little more storage or flatten the second row seats when you need to move even bigger cargo – in this mode it’s practically a van. There’s a good range of typically efficient engines, as you’d expect from VW. The 1.8T is a good bet – it’s nippy and economy is reasonable – and it also comes with a five-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox. If you prefer a diesel, there are 1.9 or 2.0 variants all offering around 42 mpg and offer excellent motorway handling. For low emissions choose the 2.0 TDI Bluemotion with just 159g/km of CO2 and a return of 46 mpg. Choose from S, SE and Sport trims. The entry-level S comes equipped with air conditioning, central locking and electric front windows. Upgrade to the SE for practical roof rails, plusher upholstery, height and lumbar adjustment on the front seats and an alarm. Or, choose the Sport for leather trim, alloy wheels, front fog lights, sports seats and a tougher sports suspension. It’s a safe proposition whichever spec you go for – it’s also got a five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating (2010), seven airbags including full length curtain bags, ABS, stability control and handy tyre pressure monitor.
