The latest Vauxhall Astra cars in stock
One of the best loved family cars since its introduction in 1979, today the popular Astra is available asfive-door hatchback and a five-door estate. Winner of the Best New Car at the 2010 Fleet World Awards, it won the accolade for its excellent build quality and frugal running costs. In the used car market the three-door Astra Sports Hatch and convertible Astra Twin Top remain popular and, as they’re no longer manufactured, you can pick up a bargain. Even though it’s been around for the last three decades, this is one car that hasn’t dated. Built at Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port plant, the Astra is British engineering at its best. Choose from eight petrol and diesel engines and five trim levels and, with features such as air-conditioning, electronic stability control and anti-skid included as standard, you’ll certainly get a lot for your money. The Astra fits five comfortably and performs well both on the motorway and in the city. Insurance costs are relatively low compared to others in this class and reliability is pretty much guaranteed - it’s a Vauxhall after all. Safety features include front, side and curtain airbags and active head restraints, not to mention a respectable five-star Euro NCAP rating. The sleek styling hides a surprising amount of head and legroom in the front and the rear and a spacious boot means that cramming in the shopping, camping gear or any other cargo you can think of is a breeze. If you need more room occasionally then the split and fold rear seats offer extra versatility. If you’re looking for a workhorse to tow a caravan or trailer then Astra Sports Tourer 1.7 CDTi (125PS) SE ecoFLEX has recently been awarded Practical Caravan Towcar of the Year 2011 due to its impressively low emissions (just 119g/km) and rapid towing ability. For the family, take a look at a 1.6 petrol model for reliability and economy. Or, if you regularly travel long distances 1.9-litre diesel is powerful and simply loves the motorway. Now in its sixth generation, it’s clear to see that the Astra has gone from strength to strength.
