When you are looking for a good used car there are questions that you should ask yourself, but one of the vexing ones to a lot of people is which is best petrol or diesel? The answer to that does largely depend on the type of motoring that you intend to use the car for. If you cover a high mileage and the bulk of your driving is on motorways then a diesel is a good option. If your driving is predominantly short journeys on local roads then a small petrol may be more suitable.
But there are many other factors to consider. Diesel is said to be better than petrol in a number of ways; small-engined petrol cars can cost up to three and a half times more in tax than small-engined diesel counterparts because they tend to pump out more CO2 into the atmosphere. Diesel seems to be the better used car option because it has lower CO2 emissions, lower road tax and better fuel economy. With both diesel engines and petrol engines now being more efficient than ever, whichever you choose the MPG return will be far better than was ever achieved by previous cars and the choice is better than ever too.
